[AoN] returning on Henge of Denravi

After 8 months of break from the game, AoN has returned on Henge of Denravi to fire up the guild. We stand by our old philosophy; excellence through teamwork and perfection of individual skillsets, both mental and mechanical. Our oldest members have been with us for quite some time now, and we still abide by the same values the guild was originally founded on. Our focus is small-scale fighting based on group play; builds are expected to be group oriented and members will be evaluated based on their ability to perform as a team rather than as individuals.

With that in mind, we will be opening recruitment. Please contact Anemizo or Convenant if you’re interested. See you in-game!

AoN releases new video footage

Hey,

I found some random footage from a while back. Although none of them really showed great successes, they illustrate lots of the problems/situations a small-man may encounter while facing bigger numbers. Hence, I decided to make a small commentary for your entertainment/information.

GW2 [AoN] Battle of the Creek :

Stormbluff Isle and WvW recap

Hey everyone,

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything and that is normal, as this website served a recruitement and advertising purpose and that purpose has its place no more. Today’s purpose is to recap, both for me to mentally word our our direction as a guild, and also to let our newer members catch up to us.

Stormbluff Isle is the newest server we’ve transferred on. We enjoy fighting outnumbered, or as Niom calls it, target-rich environnements, and frankly, yesterday night was the best fun we’ve had in a while. We sincerely hope it stays this way. However, we do not know yet if this is our permanent server or not, depending on how much we feel whether it will or will not drop down the ranks like a brick. We are not WvW analysts, and with the transfers, fluctuation is unpredictable.

Next. I suggest everyone makes peace with the fact that transfers WILL cost us gold. That is the unfortunate cost of being part of this guild. I, personally, do not care about my gold. I only care about my fun factor while playing this game. If you care so much about 10-20 gold that you are willing to leave behind AoN, then maybe AoN is not the right guild for you. I believe that over the weeks, we’ve created something truly unique, and nobody out there in the WvW scene has been able to replicate what we do.

That being said, we will not spend gold uselessly. We will not transfer every week; maybe one more time after server transfers become paid. I am a realist person, and I take into account sensible opinion and facts. Fact is… Stormbluff Isle will be fun. And fun is worth more than 10-15 gold, that we easily make in a week of WvW. What do you need gold for, anyways? That new greatsword skin will not make you have more fun than two weeks on SBI..

Now, what of Stormbluff Isle then? Well, we don’t know if it’s our permanent server or not. If it stays around T2 or T3, then maybe it is our server! If not, we will transfer. Our goal? Lots of stuff to kill, at all hours of the day! Easy breezy… Either way, let’s make it work guys. I suggest everyone to take a look and make your introductions at http://www.stormbluffisle.com/, and to talk to server guilds, leaders and commanders, and look out for a potential recruit. We do glorious things. People must know. Happy hunting, have a nice day.

Eagles and ostriches!

Our Permanent Server: Maguuma

Hello guys and Pineapple (Bacon died… oh cruel world)

You guys have stuck it out with me thus far.. I’m asking to take a last step. As of today, Maguuma will be our home server. We talked a lot about it, and although not all of you gave me their input yet, I feel that as a guild, everybody feels good about it.

Before I go on I feel like I need to remind everyone something important. I’m not stupid; there is more to this server hopping than just to piss everyone off. If I decided we’d server hop, there is a very specific reason. Let’s not forget my dream:

One day our server will recognize us as an extremely reliable and effective special forces group. We will be the best and recruit nothing but the best. What we’re best at? Cold disciplined killing. Commanders will rejoice at being able to use us as their will, and we only recognize competent commanders. We will work with the server in an ongoing effort to improve and take it to the top.

To achieve that, we need to be reliable and good. Skill and effectiveness is key to what we want to do; there’s no way around it.  We cannot be useful to our server if we get wiped constantly; we’d be better off just sticking with the zerg then. I don’t want to be one of those groups that try to be tactical teams but don’t actually achieve anything. They’d be just more useful just sticking with the commander. IF we want to detach ourselves from the main zerg, we need to be able to be extremely efficient deep in enemy lines, where we’d have almost no zerg of our own to support us. Let’s see what we’ve learned beating ourselves up at being underdogs:

  • No one is stressed out while fighting huge numbers. It’s became our comfort zone. A sea of red? Big fucking deal, we deal with that all day every day.
  • No zerg of our own? Just a week ago people were still complaining ”where’s our zerg?”. No one is anymore. No excuses, we’re a tactical team and we can work without any support from the outside. By playing servers that were near empty, we became used to that. Again, comfort zone.
  • We’ve gotten so much better as a guild. We did, and I’m so proud of everyone. There’s no denying our skill level as a group went from maybe a rating of 25 to about 40 in just a week’s time. Why? Because shit, being the underdog is hard.  Fighting outnumbered 10 to 1 is hard. We got used to hardship.
  • We’re a guild now. Really, we are. We switch servers. People come and go. AoN stays the same, and it’s great that a group of people can enjoy this game together like this. This game would be different without you guys.

But I feel that we’re getting tired of server hopping. So the ”training” ends now, we’re going to enter the real war. These weeks server transferring has yielded EXCELLENT results. We recruited good players, fought against huge zergs in overwhelming odds, in the hardest conditions possible (without a zerg of our own). It’s time to put our skill to use for our server. We’ve chosen Maguuma; here’s why.

  • MAGUUMA is very WvW oriented. I’ve talked to some of their commanders (Tsazari, Paralda..) and I feel  that it is a server that strives to improve as a whole in WvW. All the things Ehmry Bay put on paper by their forum warriors but couldn’t put into place due to lack of real warriors? Maguuma’s the opposite. They’ve been actively organizing their WvW efforts as a server and strive to climb up the ranks to seek real challenges.
  • MAGUUMA has a public mumble, in which  they use much more often than Ehmry ever did. They actively use it and their communiction as a whole (both in chat and between commanders/guilds) seems excellent.
  • MAGUUMA has been our opponent almost 4 times, and each time, we’ve enjoyed to fight them extremely. They keep coming back after a fight and they’re willing to learn from their mistakes. The more we kill them, the more we bring. I feel like this is the mentality that will take a server far.
  • MAGUUMA, after fighting us 4 times, I’m sure they recognize our tag. This is really excellent good for our penis size (for Pineapple more boob size). I’m joking, but this is good because we can start putting ourselves out for hire for commanders right away without building a reputation… I know we’re not the best, but at least they have a good feel of what we can do.
  • MAGUUMA is fighting Ehmry Bay and Crystal Desert next week.

Excellent, excellent. Official switch time might vary; I really want us all to switch at the same time so nobody gets left out. We’ll work that out when I get home.  The goal is we’re all on Maguuma by friday (reset). If your timer comes up later than friday by the reset; if you cannot make it for friday then ugh… this is ackward but you might have to play without us until your timer come up… fractal grind maybe?

Oh also you might notice Macarak’s been appointed to leader. I could have equally appoint leader to several other people. There is no coleader rank, and there is no officer rank. Respect is earned. You don’t need a rank for it. There are no formal ranks in AoN. Decisions such as joining/kicking/direction/alliance/reputation are to be taken to me personally. I feel like I’m active enough to make all important decisions.

So this is mainly because if one day I die or get banned for botting (lol) or accidently leave the guild, we have a 2nd active leader to invite me back or carry on my legacy. Both Ghost and Reveng are now inactive, so… we need a minimum of two actives for safety.

November 12th Compendium

Hey guys and Bacon,

There’s a lot to say here… I don’t post much but this one’s kinda important.

Server choice; so Eredon Terrace is fighting Northern Shiverpeaks and Sorrow’s Furnance next. This is really bad, because those servers just don’t offer much in terms of WvW quality. Yes they field numbers sometimes, but every time we wipe them they dissapear and run. Plus they always run night crews and such nonsense, and just want to karmatrain. We’d like to stay away from that tier, and that’s why we’re switching servers next week, essentially to always have a good zerg to fight. I hope it’s not a problem that we change again; we have no attachements to this server and we recruited pretty good people from it, and let’s face it: this is the best WvW we’ve had in ages. No regrets : )

WvW dynamics; now yesterday we went up testing against the Ehmry zerg and both GH and SM were giving us trouble. Although it was still 15+ versus 8 of us, we should technically be able to wipe them even if they are all full exotics…etc. This gave us a reality check and arised several points we need to work on. Before we go on, the goal here is not to say we suck, or hurt people’s feelings; it’s simply to set us in the right direction get stuff done. I think it’s important to be able to judge oneself. I question myself constantly and try to be as perfect as possible, but like all of you, I’m a work in progress. I WILL be harsh here, whether you chooses or not to be butthurt is up to you, but if you’re perfect and can’t take criticism, there’s plenty of guilds out there who will circle jerk each other instead of sorting out the weaknesses.

  • Concentration, if we’re winning and it’s easy, okay you can be laid back. However, when it’s a very hard challenge, I expect everyone to be at the top of their game and be tryhards. Because a lot of do try hard for the group, and the reason we’ve been so succesful is because lots of do and have done so in the past. We’re a hardcore WvW guild. Please do realize that; we’re in no way elitist (we don’t discriminate based on skill) but you have to be WILLING. If you feel like you don’t want to try, then maybe you’re not right for the guild… for example, the same people will always be back rallied on me after we wipe, while some dick around at the merchant for 3 minutes, check their mail, eat food… this is just annoying for the rest of us. This needs to stop; we wipe –> waypoint even if you’re alive –> rally on me –> we’re good to go. You can’t commit? Then don’t, I’d rather have 5 of us than 6 of us with the 6th one just messing around. This is the harsh way to put it, but you know me; I’ll let most things pass but for everyone’s sake, use your judgement and don’t be the guy who drags the group down. I’ve lead my share of guilds, and even the most laid back people have the courtesy and respect to not hold the group back.
  • Group awareness, although we’ve been doing really well as a group (we fall back, kite, rez…et), a lot of us have very little group awareness. Even when we kite together, it seems that a lot of us aren’t even aware of what’s happening to their group members and only care about themselves. This is dumb. Help each other, no matter what happens, because if one of us dies, we’re all going back to waypoint regardless (I’m not stupid, I know when there’s exceptions to make). You need be conscious and use your group to your advantage. This means help focus targets that are attacking guildmates, help guildmates out, call it when you need help, help clear the backlines, call it when backlines need help… stop playing as individuals and start playing as a group. Running around together does NOT make us a group. Think as a pack because, trust me, you can’t achieve anything alone.
  • Focus fire/Assist train, alright, frankly we suck at it. But this is normal… see the last 2 weeks I put our whole emphasis on pacing and let go of assist training. This was because people we fought were so terrible that I was downing them with my sword throw. Now it’s different, there’s retaliation guardians, thieves spamming daggerstorm on us, people messing up our backlines. People are getting better and we need to adapt. We need to learn how to take down other guild groups and be the best out there; and for this, focus fire is an absolute must. I’m switching our emphasis from pacing to focus fire and assist training.
  • Me (Convenant), alright, as expected I still make mistakes while calling shots (granted I don’t think it happens often, but yesterday vs the Ehmry zerg (several guilds all on Teamspeak), I made some mistakes that cost us several wipes. And I did get quite frustrated by it. Obviously in that situation playing the blaming game is completely stupid, since obviously the fault is never on one thing. It’s a combination of things (mostly of the above) and I’m part of the combination. As I still love you guys, I hope you can still love me. I do hope I’m allowed room for mistakes, and trust me, I keep my standards high on my performance. When I get mad (very very rarely), I’m actually mad at myself way more than anything else. I like to beat myself up, and it makes me competent in what I do. But that demands trust, since it takes trust and spirit to get back up after wiping 3 times in a row. If you do trust me as a leader, then I think you’d be willing to give me that room for mistakes. And I promise you I’ll try my best.

That’s about it, I’ll talk to you guys more about it ingame if you want. Basically, yesterday opened my eyes and I felt compelled to make a point about it. Despite all the negativity, I still feel like we’re fucking awesome. I think you guys are the best group of people I’ve played with, and many members also. I hope we’ll stick it out throughout our problems, differences and whatever the hell the world throws at us. There’s much much to hope for the future; let’s make that future come as fast as possible.

If you have ANYTHING, I’m more than welcome to chat. I didn’t come up with everything above by myself, I talked to a lot of guildies and this reflects their opinion as well. On this note, let’s get even better, because it would be absurd to say we’re not good. Have a pleasant afternoon, and thanks : )

We’re moving to Eredon Terrace… goodbye Ehmry

“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” -Andre Gide

Hey everyone,

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted and I apologize; there just wasn’t that much to say. The past 2 weeks have been very boring and tainted with horrible WvW quality. This is why we’re moving on Eredon Terrace to test it out. This doesn’t mean it’s permanent, nor does it mean we’re breaking all ties with Ehmry; if you have concerns whereas to why or how we’re moving, hit me up ingame and we can make any arrangements to facilitate the transfer. For now, let me give you some information on Eredon Terrace:

– They dropped ranks fast as their main zerg guild, Ruin, left the server

– They are currently facing servers 2 tiers above Ehmry

– They’re mostly probably facing Maguuma and Ehmry Bay next week

– They have lots of smaller guilds an no real zerg guild

– Their population has been low, but they can still hold their own in WvW

– They are currently recovring from Ruin’s leave; t,ey are putting up a new forum and are trying to rebuild the server

– We hope to help them rebuild an become an integrate core of the community

As a guild, I hope this gives us a big boost in motivation to go out and WvW. New allies, new enemies, new challenges, new perspective… I don’t know what’s waiting for us, but I’m reading to face it as a guild. We’re a fine assortement of players and we are good at this game. I feel ready and excited, and I hope you do too.

Transfer as soon as you can; I’ll see you tonight hopefully :). Good luck!

Rotation 5: Borlis Pass, Anvil Rock, Ehmry Bay

Greetings friends,

Very very productive week for us dear AoN :). I hope everybody’s enjoyed it, from destroying people in WvW, achieving feats we’ve never done, racking up mad street creds, recruiting many new members and listening to Taco’s real terror stories. I’ll keep this short once again, because our 1-month anniversary is coming soon and I’d like to write a big post about that to make a point on the direction we’d like to head to.

First of all, welcome to Exalon, Stumpy, Mei and PK. Exalon and Mei are our 2nd and 3rd mesmers, Stumpy’s our 3rd active warrior and PK is our 2nd ranger. We hope you all feel at home asap so we can open further recruitement. Let’s make some points:

Reputation, this has been most excellent this week and I can’t stress this enough, please please please be careful with our reputation. Between saying something stupid and keeping quiet, always keep quiet! We need to be respectable if we want to run around and still have mad street credz.

Killing, oh god we’ve gotten so damn good at it. We’re a machine. Please keep being creactive, Tacosupreme was really awesome and an excellent example. Keep finding new ways to do glorious stuff; we have the skill and the communication to do anything so let’s abuse of it.

Mumble, be aware, we’ve switched to aon1.mumble.com:5830!
